The works have been extensively restored, both the paint layer and the period frames.

The four still lifes have been relined.

96.5 x 136 cm; 114 x 154.5 cm (frame).

During the Spanish Golden Century, still lifes began to be considered as an independent pictorial genre and no longer just as an accompaniment to religious, mythological or historicist scenes.
They are valued for their own importance, sometimes through religious symbolism or by reflecting the status and prosperity of their owners through depiction of objects typical of the decorative arts.
Spanish still lifes, as we can see in the works on display, and unlike the European ones, are characterised by sobriety and marked austerity, generally on black backgrounds.
