MANOLO HUGUÉ (1872-1945) was one of the great names of 'Noucentisme' period. He was a well-known sculptor, and a multifaceted artist who also pursued painting and design, including jewellery, one of his most mysterious facets. This versatility is reminiscent of other sculptors of the previous generation, such as Ismael Smith or Paco Durrio, with whom he shares certain stylistic features, in his case enhanced by his fondness for the primitivist and the weight of Cubism within the avant-garde universe. His jewellery thus evokes his sculpture creations, through enigmatic figures with great volumetric force.
In the case of these pieces of jewellery, the main references in public collections are the MNAC in Barcelona and Museu Thermalia in Caldes de Montbui; the latter is undoubtedly an institution that holds the most important collection of the sculptor's work. Therefore, the various lots offered by SUBARNA are a unique opportunity to appreciate Manolo's art as a jeweller, given the quality, the highest volume of this kind of creation ever offered in a single auction, and above all, the exceptional material in which they are made, in gold, unlike the models preserved in the aforementioned museums (in silver).
