Lot description

Polychrome wood with embossed silver oklad.
It has hallmarks with the following data: date corresponding t,o 1860, silver hallmark (84), origin (St. Petersburg) and silversmith.
These hallmarks were mandatory from the early 19th century, and they were used to certify the material, region and workshop where the object was manufactured.
In this case, the icon was made in the capital of the Empire, an epicentre of silverware production because it was the seat of ecclesiastical and governmental institutions as well as the official residence of the tsars.
