Lot description

Turned and celadon-enamelled stoneware. Also known as Koryo celadon, typical of the dynasty's manufacture. The cup rests on a pedestal and is associated with ceremonial, ritual and courtly uses. During the Koryo dynasty (918-1392), the production of celadon ceramics reached a high degree of technical development, and there was a great boom in pottery centres, mainly in the southwestern region of the Korean peninsula. Although Korean celadons were initially strongly influenced by those produced in the Northern Song dynasty of China, they quickly developed their own characteristics.
